Macleays Spectre - Extatosoma tiaratum

A large Australian species which are easy to care for, females can grow up to 14cm and males slightly smaller at around 10cm. They are a green/browninsh colour and females can have a spiny appearance.
Females do not need to mate to lay eggs as they are parthogenetic, eggs laid this way will all hatch as females.
Eggs can take upto 6 months to hatch and should be kept on a damp substrate (Tissue is fine) at room temperature.
Once hatched the nymphs can be fed on bramble, cut leaves or leaves already nibble on by adults are better as newly hatched nymphs can have trouble feeding on the hardened edges. Bramble is readily available all year round and nymphs should be sprayed regularly for drinking.
